Tactical Unit - Krisis
Intervention Team (KIT)
The Krisis Intervention Team (K.I.T.) was first
conceived and organized in 1996 after an influx of narcotics
crime and clandestine laboratory activity in Grundy County. K.I.T. is a
multi-jurisdictional tactical team made up of Trenton Police Officers and Grundy County
Deputies.
Basic training was conducted in 1997 for
the original six team members (see photograph) by the Association of Professional Trainers (A.P.T.).
In addition to more training with A.P.T.,
the Krisis Intervention Team has received training with the National Tactical Officers Association, Fort Leonard Wood, and the Law Enforcement Training
Institute.
The Krisis Intervention Team maintains a
minimum of eight hours monthly in-service training and participates in joint training with
other tactical teams.

D.A.R.E.

D.A.R.E. is an acronym that stands for Drug Abuse Resistance Education. In 1983,
the Los Angeles Police Department developed the D.A.R.E. Program in partnership with the
Los Angeles Unified School District. D.A.R.E. is a preventive program focused on school
age children.
The Trenton D.A.R.E. Program began in 1988. In our program, a specially trained
police officer goes into 5th, 7th, and 9th Grade classrooms of the Trenton R-9 School
District and teach the 17-week D.A.R.E. Core Program. During this time, the students meet
with the D.A.R.E. Officer once each week. One of the
primary goals of the program is to teach young people the skills necessary to resist the
peer pressure and experiment with harmful drugs. The D.A.R.E. Program also emphasizes
conflict resolution skills in the an effort to reduce violence among young people. The
D.A.R.E. Officer uses a variety of activity-oriented techniques to involve students in
group discussions, an exchange of ideas and feelings, and some role-playing exercises. At
the conclusion of the program, an evening D.A.R.E. Graduation Ceremony is held which
includes parents, law enforcement officers, and members of the community.
In addition to the 5th Grade D.A.R.E. Core Program, an abbreviated program is presented to
all Kindergarten through Fourth Grade students. This introductory program provides
valuable information to the younger students including such topics as stranger danger,
drugs, personal safety, and conflict resolution.
